María Cerezo studied Aerospace Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. In 2022, she received her PhD from the Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC). She is currently Assistant Professor in UC3M within the Aerospace Engineering Department. She has formerly been working as Assistant Professor at URJC from 2015 to 2023, teaching and coordinating graduate courses in aerospace engineering, in particular, Trajectory Optimization and Guidance Laws, Air Space Optimization and Aerospace Technology courses.
Her main research is focused on deterministic and stochastic optimal control applied to trajectory optimization in ATM, in particular, with strategies to mitigate global climate change applications such as commercial formation flight. María Cerezo has 3 scientific publications, all of them JCR publications in Q1 journals and she has attended a number of national and international conferences, in which she has contributed with different communications. She was granted a scholarship to do a research stay at the Department of Control & Operations of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at the Delft University of Technology, Netherlands, for 3 months. She has participated in several national research projects, such as: “Formation flight for highly efficient future commercial aviation”, funded by Spanish State Programme for the Development of Scientific and Technical Excellence Research (2018-2021); “Managing meteorological uncertainty for a more efficient air traffic system: Meteorological uncertainty processing and trajectory tracking”, funded by Spanish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation (2019-2022); “Managing Storm Uncertainties for a Safe and Efficient Air Transport System: Storm-Avoidance Aircraft Trajectory Optimization”, funded by Spanish State Research Agency (2022-2025).
She has participated as organizing committee member in different national workshops, e.g., “Climate data analysis: detection, monitoring and forecast” as Secretary and “For a more sustainable aviation” as Chair, both of them in URJC. María Cerezo has been recognized with the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Award, of the Community of Madrid, in the field of Engineering and Architecture in 2018. She has also been honoured with Extraordinary Doctorate Award by URJC in 2023.
